From Soledad Island, the former conscripted soldiers who fought in the Falklands War warned about the systematic plan by the Milei brothers to hand over sovereignty.
The voices of the veterans were heard once again, this time from the Falkland Islands themselves. Members of the Malvinas Islands Veterans Center (CECIM La Plata) today denounced the abandonment of diplomatic policies regarding the Falklands issue and condemned the so-called Mondino-Lamy agreement, which they described as a further capitulation on sovereignty.
The scene unfolded on East Falkland, during a trip to the islands by the CECIM delegation. Waving banners that read “MILEI SOVEREIGNTY IS NOT NEGOTIABLE” and “NO TO THE MONDINO-LAMY AGREEMENT,” the veterans warned that the national government is pursuing a systematic plan of surrender, where foreign policy decisions appear to be subordinated to interests foreign to Argentina.
“The President and his sister are dismantling, step by step, the basic consensus that the Argentine people have maintained for decades regarding the Falkland Islands. These are not isolated gestures: we are facing a deliberate abandonment of the diplomatic path and the defense of territorial integrity,” the organization's representatives stated.
In this regard, they emphasized that the current administration is violating the Argentine legal framework, turning a blind eye to companies that illegally exploit fishing and seek to expand their hydrocarbon activities in the Falkland Islands, while simultaneously allowing them to operate on the Argentine mainland. They also noted that the Executive Branch has weakened regional cooperation frameworks and that this attitude constitutes a clear disregard for the guidelines that establish explicit restrictions on maritime and logistical traffic to the islands.
The La Plata-based organization stressed that the Executive's statements and actions not only violate the First Transitory Provision of the National Constitution—which requires the recovery of full sovereignty over the Falkland Islands through peaceful means—but also disregard Argentina's international commitments, especially within the framework of the United Nations.
“This agreement with the United Kingdom, which aims to legitimize the joint exploitation of resources, represents an open surrender of our sovereignty. And we denounce it from the Falkland Islands, because the gravity of this surrender is felt most strongly here,” they emphasized.
The presence of the ex-combatants on the islands, with their flags and their direct message, seeks to challenge Argentine society: sovereignty is not negotiated, it is defended.
